Project Details

The Sacred Heart Church, originally constructed in 1969, is a protected structure in the heart of Waterford City. The building comprised an exposed concrete structure, numerous individual roofs with a copper-patented roof finish known as the Broderick Insulated Roof, along with 108 Dalle-de-Verre stained glass windows. The project brief included remedial works to the exposed concrete structure, removal and replacement of the existing roof finish, and refurbishment of the stained glass windows. This presented a challenging refurbishment project as the Church was to remain fully operational throughout.

This project demanded an innovative approach to achieve its overall success. As part of our planning process, we identified an alternative methodology to execute the project based on previous experience on similar projects. Without any deviation from the Specification, we achieved all goals identified by our client and completed the project within time and budget, while maintaining day-to-day Church operations. The refurbishment resulted in an exceptional, crisp, and subtle aesthetic facelift to this 50-year-old building, without removing any of its original character.
